Image 1. The PluriZyme (using the Latin root pluri- and -zyme from the word enzyme) concept. It consists on the incorporation of artificial active sites into catalytic and non-catalytic proteins. Briefly, the idea is based on locating in a protein or an enzyme and through the Protein Energy Landscape Exploration (PELE) software, existing binding pockets where a target substrate could be accommodated and turning them into catalytic active sites through introducing all the residues needed for catalysis.
